Sweet or Savory ~ Just Add Fruit

So healthy, and oh so beautiful; just add fruit to complete almost any meal or tabletop presentation. Delightful and bright, fruit is just as healthy as it looks great when plated. It's exciting to see that fruit is now being combined on a regular with more savory dishes, as it has always been the topper of sweet treats we enjoy such as cakes and pies. In this presentation, I have added a bunch of sweet strawberries with succulent black berries and slices of lemon that I included in the oven with my baked chicken tenders for a zesty surprise. Chefs and foodies have introduced us to more creative ways to incorporate fruit into everyday meals such as cooking with proteins like beef, fish, pork and poultry. Remember when mom garnished the ham with pineapples and cherries? Yum! Traditionally, that type of garnishment was only reserved for holiday meals and special occasions. Now it's just as common, and super easy to add fruit to dress up side dishes like rice and potatoes and mix it in with our veggies for a well blended salad. Not to leave out all of the drinks and smoothies that include a nutritional balance of fruit with veggies for a colorful and tasty concoction (pineapple, carrot, apple, banana smoothie please ;-). If the kids don't eat all of the left over fruit I used today, I plan to garnish a salad with the sweet berries tomorrow!

Look how pretty this Sunday brunch is topped with sweet, natural fruit treats and plated to stand out on the black and white Courtly Check pattern.
