Easy Platters & Smorgasbords
I've been making smorgasbords all summer long! You may also see these referred to as cheese boards, cheese platters or mini buffets. All the ones I make do not always include cheese, so I choose to call them the good old-fashioned name, smorgasbords.
Smôrɡəsˌbôrd -
a buffet offering a variety of hot and cold meats, salads, hors d'oeuvres, etc., a wide range of something; a variety
I love to make these because they're easy and you can get as creative or as over the top as you want. Or you may choose to keep it simple and still have the most beautiful of platter presentations. One of my favorite serving items to use when making my boards is a marble platter. The Mister is a builder, so I nabbed from him a brand new 24x12 white marble tile that I (obviously ;-) cleaned and now use on a regular. This size works perfect for me since I like to make pretty hardy buffets. I like to include on my board a mini pedestal platter and little relish dishes to separately hold dips and sauces or other items that I may want separated like berries or oranges. I also like to use arugula as a dual garnish and separator on my platters. Sometimes I'll use a wooden paddle cutting board when I'm making a smaller platter.
These are just some of my tricks and tips for "cheese-boarding". Cheese board is the popular search term where you can find lots of inspo for creating your very own culinary board. My "Good Eats" Pinterest board is HERE where you'll find a variety of mouthwatering boards that I've pinned for inspiration. I'm also a fan of the book Platters and Boards (HERE) for at home, any time cheese board inspiration.
Happy smorgasbord-ing!
Please share a comment (and a Pinterest pin ;-) of any platters or boards that you create!
