Layered In Living Color

I had so much fun with this post! I used the same pink jeggings and primarily the same shirt, which by the way is actually a dress. The point of it all is how easy (and fun) it is to create various outfits among a few classic wardrobe pieces that you may already own. Even if the colors, fabrics and patterns are mostly different, I promise you can still create a stunning look! This is one of my oh my whimsy! affects, and here's what I used to bring this all together; but as separate looks of their own ;-)

(1) blouse

(1) boots

Yields: SO MANY OUTFITS! SO MANY DIFFERENT LOOKS!

Now, the dresses are almost always a multi functional piece. They can obviously be worn alone, or layered, as I have pictured here. What's so cool is that I was able to show you more than a couple of ways to style a dress. Here we used these pieces as shirts over jeggings, and then again layering the short sleeve dress over the long sleeve dress, still using BOTH dresses as shirts over jeggings! The floral look is romantic and the solid look is playful. What also played these styles up as girly, cutesy, whimsy, instead of dressy, sophisticate is how sneakers were paired with each dress outfit instead of a dressier shoe! Easy, right?

Now, did you catch the blouse over the dress with pants underneath? Then the blouse again, but alone with the jeggings for not one, but two totally different looks! The layered look featured color blocking hues, while the un-layered look brings to life a monochromatic look and as the eye moves down, a deeper tone is fused in with the burgundy boots. The extremeness from pink jeggings to a deep red thigh high boot was more sleek than overwhelming because both items are form fitting. (pausing for that "ah hah!" moment ;-)

Onto the sweater, which is probably my favorite part of this layering ensemble. This one is so super soft and cozy, and it has lace up strings! It sure can be worn oh so well alone and out of this layered story. Especially since it wasn't a matchy, matchy color to any of the other pieces. I still opted to bring it in because gray is a neutral color, and although the sweater isn't pink like the staple pants here, nor burgundy like the handy dandy dress, I still saw fit to layer it right on top of that dress (again ;-) creating a casual chic look.

OK, I think your picking up what I've put on here! We managed to get the following looks from the layers: romantic, playful, girly, color blocked, monochromatic, and casual chic. Not to mention how many looks can be achieved by simply styling each piece un-layered.

I love to share how a few classic pieces: patterned dress, solid dress, jeans, blouse, sweater, boots and sneakers can be arranged together and separate to maximize your wardrobe's true potential. Also, another style tip: jeans can be interchanged for jeggings or slacks, or a floral pattern could have easily been a polka dot pattern to achieve what I did. The point of it all is to enjoy your sense of style by remaining open minded and creative when pairing and layering your outfits ;-)
